Pop-ups are small windows that can appear on your browser and usually display some form of advertisement. There are two types of pop
ups: automatic and manual. Unwelcome automatic pop ups are those that appear on your Internet browser when you are visiting a web page and are usually designed to sell you something. These types of pop ups are not usually welcomed by website visitors since most of the time they are annoying, obtrusive and unexpected. Another type of automatic pop up is still even more intrusive an can show up on your desktop. These come from Spyware programs or ‘Cookies’ that have been installed in your machine usually without your knowledge or consent. Accepted Pop Ups. However there are some free programs like "Gator" (gator.com) which help users to automatically fill out forms and remembers user names and passwords. For this free service this company will (with your consent) pop up advertisings on your desktop when you visit some sites that have the same or similar products or services than the ones they advertise for their clients.
Manual Pop Ups Manual pop ups are less intrusive since they must be activated by the user by clicking in a link or going over a link with the mouse in order for it to "pop up" on your browser.
