Paid Inclusion
What is Paid Inclusion?

Pay per Inclusion (search engines and directories)

Pay per inclusion is the listing a website in the search engines or directories for a fee. Some but not all of the mayor search engines and directories charge to have your site listed in them.

Some of these search engines and directories don't charge for listing your website, but sometimes it could take weeks if not months for your website to get listed, if at all. However, by paying them a fee they will reduce this time to just a few days. Some of smaller sites charge you a life time fee while the larger ones will charge a yearly fee. Pay per inclusion should not be confused with pay per click which is a completely different breed of search engine.

Fees charged by Search Engines and Directories range (per URL) from as little as $20 (in some sites) up to $299 in Yahoo ($600 for adult sites) per year.

Why do some of the most important search engines and directories charge you fee while others don’t? It shouldn’t be any surprise to realize that these very large and complex electronic sites were created to produce revenue in the short or long run, so in order to make money they charge you to list your site in theirs. However, some like Google, which is the most important doesn’t - Why? By charging sites for their listings a search engine or directory actually reduces the number of sites being listed there and therefore the number of sites that can also be found. Unless you have a favorite directory or search engine that you like and are loyal to (yahoo for example who charges for business sites) you probably go to one that is large enough where you can find just about anything because of the gigantic amount of free listings there. They make their money selling feature listings and advertising, and they seem to be very successful at it.
