These pages are submitted to the search engines but have no useful content, sometimes not even having a content related to the web site itself, but are rich in keyword content. They are considered spam by search engines and should be avoided at all costs. Websites trying to trick the Search Engines with these tactics could be banned for life from these search engines and directories since they waist up their resources, give them a bad image and make them less functional, making it much harder for web surfers to find what they are looking for.

Doorway pages used to be accepted by the search engines until they figured out that it was not in their best interest to accept them anymore. Hundreds and even thousands of doorway pages can be generated by automated software programs.

Doorway pages carefully done by hand with real and useful content (called informational pages) are completely different from doorway pages, are not considered spam and are accepted by the search engines. Unlike doorway pages, creating informational pages is a time consuming task and one that must carefully calculated and planned in order to keep it from backfiring.
