Cloaking

Providing a different content to search engine spiders or crawlers.

This is used to trick the spiders into seeing many noon existent pages with optimized content. Also by sending a page to the search engines for indexing but showing a completely different web page to their visitors.

Mayor search engines consider this to be unethical and they could penalize or even completely delete websites from their listings and ban them for life if caught doing this type of maneuver.

Cloaking also refers to making the html of the page inaccessible.

This is done in order to keep others from copying the contents of a page and or the information contained in the head of the html where title, description and keywords are located. In this case the webmaster or SEO must be very knowledgeable on how to do this correctly and make the necessary changes in the html in order to allow search engine spiders to read the html. Otherwise the search engine robots won't be able to read it and catalog the page - bad choice.
